Polestar Calendars – Who We Are

Polestar Calendars Ltd. is an independent family-run business owned and operated by Ruth Porter and Julian Ross. We live and work in rural south-eastern British Columbia in the beautiful Slocan Valley, where we’ve been publishing books and calendars since 1983. We are proud believers in the cultural importance of rural areas.

Polestar is committed to being environmentally friendly. While much of the calendar industry is moving its printing overseas, we always print our agendas in Canada on 100% post-consumer recycled text paper that is Forest Stewardship Council approved. We also donate calendars to local charitable organizations each year, and a percentage of December’s online sales are donated to the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

Polestar has a fantastic team of sales reps across Canada – Ampersand Inc – who sell our calendars to your local stores.

How We Got Started

We started in the calendar business in the early 1980s when Julian was at university and needed some help organizing his time. Not happy with the standard business-oriented agendas that were available, he created the Original Student Calendar — in the process developing the unique three-part time-management format that is the cornerstone of all Polestar calendars.

As our young family grew, we developed a planner to help busy families manage their lives. The Polestar Family Calendar was published in 1988 – making it easier for families to organize and simplify.

In 1999 we created the Polestar Business Calendar, to provide creative time-management for our working lives. Our newest addition is the Polestar Planner, a portable agenda for general use.

Our mission is to develop simple and effective time-management agendas for all stages of our customers’ lives.
